Weird Poetry III: Lend Me A Ladder
June 9, 2008
Achievement engenders expectation
Expectation necessitates achievement
An inescapable cycle that can only end via disappointment
No wonder so many aim low
Can’t fall if you’ve hit rock bottom
We all live life on someone else’s terms
They find your terms offensive
“How can we mold you, fold you
Contort you and crush you
Make you fit?”
Because you see, you have to fit.
You have to.
Society, the iron boot, crushing you from above
I misplaced my goddamn helmet
Where the fuck did I put that thing
Maybe I never had it
I need a lift, or a boost, or something
I can’t seem to get onto the shoulders of the giants that came before me
Can somebody lend me a ladder?
